##  Thinking about taking some time away from Harvard College? 

It’s common to consider taking a leave of absence at the College. [Harvard College's leave of absence policy](https://handbook.college.harvard.edu/) gives you flexibility in your academic path. A leave of absence allows you to take an indefinite pause from studies to pursue other opportunities or priorities before returning to complete your degree.

##  Common Reasons for Leaves 

On average, 235 students a year take a leave of absence. Examples include:

- Engaging with a career experience
- Addressing personal matters
- Focusing on a medical condition
- Spending time focusing on a commitment without also having to be enrolled in coursework
