It’s common to consider taking a leave of absence at the College. Harvard College's leave of absence policy gives you flexibility in your academic path. A leave of absence allows you to take an indefinite pause from studies to pursue other opportunities or priorities before returning to complete your degree.
Common Reasons for Leaves
On average, 235 students a year take a leave of absence. Examples include:
- Engaging with a career experience
- Addressing personal matters
- Focusing on a medical condition
- Spending time focusing on a commitment without also having to be enrolled in coursework
